Depends on what you want to do with it. The smaller tank will run out quickly if you want to use some air tools. Sandblasting uses tons of air as do certain grinders, inflating tires or impact wrenches use very little. Personally I have a 6 hp, 60 gallon upright and it has been a good all round size.
