Dano; I think that you would be Ill advised to try and operate a 3 horsepower motor on 120 Volt power. This large a motor will most likely require such large wire and breaker that it would not be in your best interest. A 3 hp motor will draw about 22 Amps @240 volts and would require a 2 pole 30 amp breaker, and #10 supply wire 3 conductor. If you were to try to operate this motor at 120 Volts the current draw would be about 59 Amps, which would require #4 wire and the use of possibly an 80 or even a 90 amp 1 pole breaker if one of that size were even available. My advice would be to stick with 240 volt operation, Much chaaper and more readily available components. Best of luck Marlon.

Thanks Marlon, I agree with your accessment. I had done some further research and decide to stick with the 240v setup. I Also found a shop that gave me the correct terminal connection for that motor. If you run across someone that needs this information please share it.

I have a Gould Century 1 HP electric motor. The motor is set up for 230 volts. I would like to covert back to 115 volts, but the schematic on the cover plate is missing. Can any one help?

For the one HP motor, to change from 220 to 110, one lead to terminal 0ne the other to terminal four.

I have a sears air cpmpressor with a 1 horse 115/230 motor of your but there is no wiring diagram for wiring from 120 to 220. i need to find out how to wire your motor for 220 because on 120 the compressor won't keep up with some of my air tools
